The Kerala government has declared a ‘dies non’ (no work, no pay) for employees participating in the strike scheduled for tomorrow. This move aims to discourage participation in the strike and ensure the smooth functioning of government services. The order issued by Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan said unauthorised absence from duty on January 22 will attract action under dies non. The day’s salary will be deducted from the salary for February 2025. It also directs department heads not to grant leave to employees on January 22 except in the following circumstances — illness of the employee or close relatives, examination requirements of employees, childbirth in the case of women employees, and other unavoidable circumstances. The strike, raising various demands of government employees, has been called by the CPI-backed Joint Council and employees organisations supported by the Opposition parties.
